These songs, set to Elizabethan\/Tudor poetry were also known as “The Elizas”, and were composed in 1913\/14 when Gurney was still a student at the Royal College of Music in London. They are arguably his most famous collection, and includes what is almost certainly his most famous and iconic song in “Sleep”.<\/p>\n

Along The Field \u2013 Ralph Vaughan Williams<\/b>
This cycle, for the relatively unusual setting of voice and violin, was was composed in 1927 and set to the poetry of AE Housman. The songs expolore themes of love, loss and the transcience of life.<\/p>\n

Four Songs, Opus 14 \u2013 Roger Quilter<\/b>
This cycle is one of English Song master Roger Quilter’s lesser-known works, and is set to nineteenth and twentieth century poetry. Like many of Quilter’s works, they discuss the natural world; the seasons and the changing of the seasons, birdlife and flowers.<\/p>\n

8 Folksong Arrangements for High Voice and Harp \u2013 Benjamin Britten<\/b>
A prolific collector and arranger of folksongs, this spirited volume was the last set of published works by Britten before his untimely death in 1976 at 63. They were a present for his long time partner and collaborator Peter Pears, and the highly-regarded Welsh harpist Osain Ellis.<\/p>\n

Let Us Garlands Bring \u2013 Gerald Finzi<\/b> This collection of five Shakespearan texts was first published in 1942, and remains one of Finzi’s most popular, frequently performed and highly-regarded works. Finzi dedicated the first piece, “Come Away, Come Away death”, to Vaughan Williams, with whom he enjoyed a close friendship.<\/p>\n

Delving into themes of nostalgia and the tragedy of lost youth, this collection, originally composed in 1911, captures the essence of Alfred Edward Housman\u2019s timeless poetry. Collins\u2019 arrangements embellish the poignant resonance of Butterworth\u2019s work, forever etched in the annals of English song.<\/p>\n

The Curlew \u2013 Peter Warlock<\/b>

Conceptus: Sea Song<\/h2>\n

The song was composed by Australian composer Timothy Collins with lyrics from \u2018Sea Song\u2019, a poem by New Zealand poet and author Katherine Mansfield.<\/p>\n

The recording was released to coincide the centenary of Mansfield\u2019s death, which was marked extensively in her native New Zealand. Alongside the release of this single, Divine Art released the Sea Song music film digitally, a fully realised narrative film featuring Conceptus artistic director and tenor Scott Robert Shaw, and actress Patricia Aragon.
